Epinephrine Auto-Injector Policy

Young Audiences Charter Schools will make every effort to maintain at least two (2) doses of unassigned, stock epinephrine auto-injectors at each school. These doses will be provided under the standing order of a Louisiana-licensed physician to assist any student who experiences a first-time anaphylactic emergency without a prescribed treatment.

The stock epinephrine may be administered by a school nurse or an authorized, trained school employee who, in good faith, believes that a student is experiencing an anaphylactic reaction on school premises during the academic day.

This policy is not intended to replace or override any student-specific medical orders or prescribed medications for anaphylaxis.

This policy does not extend to off-campus activities such as field trips, transportation to or from school, athletic events, or extracurricular activities that occur outside of the academic day.
